The 1930s brought unprecedented innovation in machine-age technology and materials. Industrial designers from the auto industry translated the principles of aerodynamics and streamlining into everyday objects like radios and toasters. It was also a decade when an unequaled variety of watch cases and movements came into being. In lieu of hands to tell time, one such complication, called a jumping mechanism, utilized numerals on a disc viewed through a window. With its striking resemblance to the dashboard gauges and radio dials of the decade, the jump hour watch was indeed "in tune" with the times! The Stauer 1930 Dashtronic deftly blends the modern functionality of a 21-jewel automatic movement and 3-ATM water resistance with the distinctive, retro look of a jumping display (not an actual jumping complication). True to "Machine Art" aesthetics, the sleek brushed stainless steel case is clear on the back, allowing a peek at the inner workings. The 1 ½" case is complemented with a black alligator-embossed leather band. Fits wrists 7"-8 ½".

Stauer Automatic Movement Noire Stainless Steel Men's Watch with Leather Band
I'll take mine black...no sugar "As a professional restorer of antique and classic watches for major museums, I recently reviewed the movement and individual parts of the Stauer Noire watch. The assembly and the precision of the mechanical movement are excellent." - George Thomas - Towson Watch Company In the early 1930's watch manufacturers took a clue from Henry Ford's favorite quote concerning his automobiles, "You can have any color as long as it is black." Black dialed watches became the rage especially with pilots and race drivers. Of course, since the black dial went well with a black tuxedo, the adventurer's black dial watch easily moved from the airplane hangar to dancing at the nightclub. Now, Stauer brings back the "Noire", a design based on an elegant timepiece built in 1936. Black dialed, complex automatics from the 1930's have recently hit new heights at auction. One was sold for in excess of 600,000. We thought that you might like to have an affordable version that will be much more accurate than the original. Basic black with a twist. Not only are the dial, hands and face vintage, but we used a 27-jeweled automatic movement. This is the kind of engineering desired by fine watch collectors worldwide. But since we design this classic movement on state of the art computer-controlled Swiss built machines, the accuracy is excellent. Three interior complications display day, month and date. The crocodile embossed leather band is adjustable from 6-1/2" to 9", fitting almost any wrist. And the screw-down crown keeps the watch water resistant to 5 atm. We have priced the luxurious Stauer Noire to keep you in the black... so slip into the back of your black limousine, savor some rich tasting black coffee and look at your wrist knowing that you have some great time on your hands.

How to steal a watch from the toughest men alive They invited me into their secret headquarters and turned their backs for an instant... The room smelled like history. Pipe smoke and old leather. Snifters of scotch and a smoldering fireplace. All mixed with a faint must from centuries of damp London days. I remember breathing it in and thinking, this is how it smells in heaven. I found myself in the library. Its walls were crowded with horned trophies that stared back with black eyes. Grand cabinets full of artifacts stood like shrines to decades of adventure. Faded photographs. Tribal masks. Ceremonial swords. But still, in that room of odd and fantastic objects, wouldn't you know it was the clocks that caught my eye. Each told the time in some remote part of the world. One in particular caught my eye. "That's the Quartermain clock," my host said. "It tells the time in Northern Zimbabwe." You can set the Stauer Quartermain Watch for whatever time zone your next adventure finds you in. Inspired by that historic clock face, our watch boasts vintage details framed in a handsome, brushed rose gold-finished case. Consider it your unofficial membership card for the historic, members-only club. In its heyday, the club was a haven for Britain's great adventurers, a place where they could reunite to tell wild stories and compare scars. Today it stands as a museum of unapologetic manhood. And I'm big enough to admit that I wanted to stay there forever. I can't, of course, but at least every time I glance at this watch, I have something in common with the toughest men alive.

He invented the first watch with an automatic mechanical drive. These innovative movements required no batteries and never needed to be manually wound. Inspired by history, our Stauer Versailles has been painstakingly handcrafted to meet the demanding standards of vintage watch collectors. Every interior dial has been carefully engineered to replicate the "complications" of the earliest multifunction watches. Two interior dials display day and month and are run by a perpetual calendar mechanism. Get a piece of the auction I didn't mean to buy the watch. But it wasn't exactly an accident either. My wife told to me to sit on my hands because she knows how I can get at these vintage watch auctions, but there was something about that beautiful blue face... I couldn't help myself. It was one of the earliest examples of that particular watch design I'd ever seen. A classic military model straight out of the 1940s. And I felt lucky to win it at auction. It was described by the seller as "needing some TLC" and that couldn't have been more true. I took it to my watch guy and he spent a few days with it, deconstructing it, researching the movement, cataloging the work that would have to be done to get it running again. He rolled his chair back from his work station, lifted the loupe from his eye and said, "I can restore it for you. But by the time I get done, it'll basically be a brand new watch." And it was right then that I decided to build the Stauer Exemplar Watch. We kept the striking metallic blue dial because it was what had attracted me to the watch in the first place. But we added complications, making this timepiece a chronograph and creating a more balanced design. Between 4 and 5 o'clock we included a date window and made the hands luminescent so you can stay on schedule day or night. The stainless steel case gleams even brighter than the original did after polishing, and on the genuine leather band we added bold white stitching for contrast. But the biggest change we made was on the inside. The Exemplar is driven by an incredibly precise quartz movement that oscillates at a frequency of 32,768 cycles per second to keep time accurately within one second per day. This is what I love most about my job - taking great treasures from the past and making them even better than before.

Stauer Men's 200M Excursion Stainless Steel Dive Watch with Stainless Steel Link Bracelet
The cure for the common condition. I was feeling restless and jumpy. I kept catching myself staring out the window at work for minutes at a stretch. After a few weeks of this, I went to my doctor and explained my curious condition. Upon hearing my predicament, he chuckled and said it's a common problem he sees this time of year. I pressed him for the remedy, and he scribbled the following on a prescription pad: Take two planes to Belize and call me in the morning. Now it was my turn to laugh. It was true, I had been working hard, and I was overdue for some well-deserved R&R. And besides, who was I to argue with a man of medicine? I called the office to tell them of my plans, threw some clothes and a Hemingway novel in a suitcase and headed for the airport. I also made sure to wear the most important element of my trip: my Excursion Dive Watch. At home exploring coral reefs or investigating the rum options at a beachside bar, this watch is the perfect companion in any locale. With a case, band and crown of stainless steel, this watch is built to last, and its water resistance rating of 20 ATM means it can handle most of your aquatic adventures. Usually we discourage knowing the day while on vacation, but in case you must know, we've included a date window at the 3 o'clock marker. To reflect the calming waves of the ocean, we've made the watch's face midnight blue. And with precision crystal movement, you'll always know the exact time happy hour starts. We all need a reminder to take it easy, and every time I glance at this stainless steel beauty it takes me back to the days of sunshine and surf. Don't settle for just another timepiece. Wear the Excursion Dive Watch. Because you don't need a plane to get away from it all.

A watch as tough as the men who inspired it The Stauer Midway Chronograph... inspired by the timepieces used by America's wartime heroes You know them - rough and tough American GIs from back in the day, who wore watches like our new Midway Chronograph. They served at Pearl Harbor. They stormed the beaches at Normandy. They patrolled the Pacific in battleships and submarines. They fought in blazing combat through the clouds over Paris and Germany. They raised the American flag at Iwo Jima. They were our fathers and grandfathers. They were Freedom Fighters. And they were our heroes. World War II was a defining era for America and the service men and women who fought for our country. That's why we commemorate the Greatest Generation so frequently at Stauer. We owe them debts of honor and gratitude that, frankly, we'll never be able to fully repay. And that's why we enjoy designing vintage-style watches that are based on timepieces used during the War years... it keeps those brave fighters alive in our memories whenever we bend our wrists to check the time. Our Midway Men's Chronograph takes the classic bomber/aviator style watch and combines it with a contemporary look and a precision chronograph movement, providing exact stopwatch and time counting functions. The military, triangular device at 12 o'clock high meshes stylistically with the modern numerals on the dial. The stainless steel case, caseback and crown are enhanced with an antique finish to give it a vintage look. The bold, shiny hands are luminous for use in low-light conditions, and a date window is conveniently placed at 3 o'clock. Plus, it's water resistant up to 10 ATM. The Midway is the perfect men's watch to wear today, and to remember our loved ones from yesterday. It represents our exceptional American heritage and national honor. Wear our Midway Chronograph proudly, and show the veterans in your life just how much you appreciate their bravery.
